Albums
Specific Ambiguities
A live recording of my dissertation concert performed on February 25, 2022 at the University of California, Irvine. The album follows one piece as it returns again and again, each time performed by a different member of the ensemble until they play it together at the end. These repetitions are interspersed with other works featuring Cross-Domain Notation: interactive scores, computer musicians, and a jazz quartet.
Compositions
Framework Etudes: No. 2 (Around) (Disklavier Realization)
The Framework Etudes ask performers to provide their own conceptual framework for the meaning of notation. In this realization, created in Max/MSP and performed on Disklavier, the computer takes on the role of the musician: interpreting the score and playing the instrument.
a candle at night is not at optical infinity for cello quartet and quadraphonic electronics
Moths evolved to navigate by distant celestial light, but a candle's diverging rays transform their reliable compass into a logarithmic spiral toward destruction. The piece explores how a behavior that once had survival value can misfire when context shifts. Written for Eduard Teregulov.
Pathways for two violins
This work is based on the harmonic series of each of the violin's four strings, navigated through an organizational structure and paired with different performance techniques. Written for and performed by Mioi Takeda and Lynn Bechtold of Miolina at The Cell Theatre, NYC.
close is a kind of far for solo viola
Written as part of CEME 2019 for Moshe Aharonov of Meitar Ensemble. The title was changed after performance.
Performances
Group Talk by Tomoko Ozawa
A suite of three pieces which model possible situations in conversation by a group of individuals who come from different cultural and musical backgrounds. The composition weaves together pre-composed and improvised sections, with performers selecting materials or improvising within established frameworks. Written by Tomoko Ozawa. I played violin and recorded this concert.
Audio Engineering
The Gedanken Room
A film-recital by composer-director Omar Costa Hamido exploring the implications of quantum computing for music composition and improvisation. The work presents four pieces performed by improvisers in jazz, contemporary, and electronic music, while the visual narrative addresses human-computer interactions and telematics. I served as audio engineer for this project.
Towers
An avant-garde jazz album by drummer and composer Atticus Reynolds, featuring original compositions performed by LA jazz musicians. I served as recording engineer.
Brother Speedo
A psych pop and roll album by Florida-based band Hello Joyce. I served as mix and mastering engineer.
