Round Robin Timer
Timed rotation for improvisation sessions.
What is a round robin?
In group improvisation, a round robin is a structured rotation where performers cycle through pairings in sequence. Rather than everyone playing at once, two performers play together while the rest listen, and the baton passes from one pairing to the next. The format gives each performer a chance to interact one-on-one with their neighbors in the lineup, creating a series of distinct musical conversations.
This tool supports two rotation formats:
Duo Relay bookends the session with two solos: the first performer opens alone, then duos cascade through the lineup, and the last performer closes alone. The structure keeps things moving, since every transition swaps just one player.
A solo → A+B → B+C → C+D → D solo
Solo-Duo Alternating gives every performer a solo before their first duo, so each person has a moment to establish their individual voice. The session alternates between solo and duo rounds throughout.
A solo → A+B → B solo → B+C → C solo → C+D → D solo
Either way, the goal is the same: give performers a frame to play inside, so they can focus on listening and responding rather than negotiating logistics.
